January 10

The impermenance of life
Drones on and on.
And yet, the permanence and ubiquity of time
Reminds you that no one is ever truly gone.

And as you sit there
Another year gone by,
You wonder to yourself:
“How hard must I try

to keep those who are dear to me
close to my heart
When those who aren’t near to me
Seem far apart?”

And as you awaken
From your reverie
You look up
And you see me

A close friend, an aquintance,
Label me as you fancy
But heed my message:
To no one should you appeal for clemency.

To no one
Should your heart be held prisoner
And for no one
Should you have to linger.

So hop on your saddle
And keep your chin up
Because the road ahead
Is long and rough

And you’ve got a ways to go still
But I’ll be by your side
riding up that hill.
